Tahoe-Truckee Campus Snow Day Policy

Day Classes

(9 a.m. to 4 p.m.):

Sierra College day classes occur between the hours of 9 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and follow the Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District’s snow day calls. TTUSD’s SnoPhone is 582-2510. Snow on campus

DAY and EVENING SNOW DAYS are announced on our main line at 550-2225. Faculty and students are advised to call our main line before traveling to campus.

Evening Classes

(4 p.m. to 10 p.m.):

Sierra College does NOT follow the Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District’s snow day calls for evening classes starting after 4 p.m.

Please call the Truckee Campus voicemail system at 530/ 550-2225 no earlier than 4 p.m. to determine the status of evening classes. If students call regarding the status of evening classes before 4 p.m., they will be asked to call back.

General “rule of thumb” for campus closure is two or more highways leading into the basin under R2 conditions (chains or 4WD). In particular, snow days are determined by the status of Highway 89 from Tahoe City to Truckee, and Highway 267 from Kings Beach to Truckee.
For information on road status, call the CalTrans Highway Information Network at 1 800 427-7623, or visit their website at www.dot.ca.gov or www.nvroads.com.

When possible, snow day status is announced on local public radio stations, cable TV Channel 6 and local media are advised.
