The California Community Colleges have taken a significant reduction in funding but especially a huge and devastating reduction in most of the categorical programs.
The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Fund for the 2009-10 fiscal year has been initially reduced from $1,747,000 (2008-09) to $856,092 (2009-10) for a $890,908 or 51% reduction in funding from the previous year. There may be additional reductions to be determined at a later date.
About the Position
Purpose
In an effort to increase staff diversity, Sierra College is offers a faculty internship program. This program allows participants to teach or counsel at the community college level under the guidance of a master teacher or counselor. Under the plan, those who successfully complete the paid faculty internship may have the opportunity to teach or work as a counselor at the college.
Compensation
Interns will be paid an amount not to exceed $500 per semester.
About the Faculty Internship Program
Program
The Sierra College Faculty Internship Program provides teaching and counseling experience and skills necessary to enter the field of higher education. The program requires that prospective interns meet the criteria and have appropriate education in their field. Moreover, the program provides an opportunity for faculty interns to learn and practice teaching and counseling strategies appropriate for community college students.
Eligible candidates for this program should:
- Have an interest in a career in teaching or counseling at the community college level;
- Have no paid, professional teaching or counseling experience; and
- Have expertise in an instructional subject area or masters degree in an appropriate subject: (For academic subjects - A Master's degree or at least near completion of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university is required to participate in the Internship Program.)

Please click “EMPLOYMENT” at the bottom of this page and fill out the “Part Time Faculty Application”. Mail it back to us along with your cover letter to include
- why you are interested in teaching or working at Sierra College; and
- since the purpose of this internship is to attract applicants from diverse backgrounds to teach at Sierra College, please describe how your own background and experiences have led to your interest in the Sierra College Faculty Internship program and add diversity to our faculty.
We also require a personal resume, three letters of recommendation, and college transcripts (copies will be accepted). Interested candidates should begin assembling these materials now.
Selected candidates will be invited for an interview. The criteria to be used in selecting interns include: (1) subject matter competence in a discipline where the need for additional college faculty is the greatest and the most immediate, and (2) completion of the appropriate Master's degree by the end of the internship semester.
About Faculty Internship Program Requirements
Interns
Under the direction of the Faculty Mentor and the Program Coordinator, the Faculty Intern is responsible for the following requirements:
- Participation in the District Sponsored Pedagogy Class if available.
- Reliable and regular attendance to all scheduled meetings with either their Faculty mentor, the Dean of the Division, the Coordinator of the Faculty Internship Program, or others as assigned.
- Advance preparation of appropriate materials as assigned by the Faculty Mentor.
- For instructional faculty, presentation of a planned delivery of classroom teaching in a class session during the one semester internship.
- Be in attendance for all classroom or counseling sessions.
- Meet with your assigned Faculty Mentor on a regular basis or as assigned.
- For instructional faculty, submit to your Faculty Mentor a lesson plan of the class you will be teaching (if any) the following semester.
- Submit to the Program Coordinator, at the end of the semester, an evaluation of the program and your internship experience.
