Favorite Sierra Memories

Quote
"Oh there are far too many and I am not sure I should share the really good ones. We had a blast my second year with Lia Lovelady and her pre-game antics. From the voodoo doll to the volcano, to the potation demolition….they were all fun times that in their own weird way got us very pumped up for our games. My personal favorite memory had to be the really pretty uniforms we got to wear our first year!" --Nicole Taylor

"I don't think this is my favorite memory but doing pro rolls in the rain in Truckee sucked!" --Mandy Ramey (Brown)

"Many memories come to mind….I made so many friends. Michele Avila (Bennett) is still a close friend. And the mile my sophomore year…..I got it done on the first try and Roz didn't like that and thought I should keep running every day but I told her she couldn't change the rules now! The retreats were a blast, playing ball in the snow, running in the mountains, and the treasure hunt!" --Carla Moore (Stephens)

"The overall experience of being a part of the team was a great time in my life" --Jolie Taylor
"My favorite memories at Sierra were the retreats and the map run….jumping fences, running through a field that was actually a swamp, and being chased by a bull." --Holley Limpach
"Playing basketball at Sierra was a great time in my life. Both years were equally special. My favorite memori July 17, 2008 Limpach….they were truly great friends." --Amy McLeod (Besana)
"Please!!....Need I say it? Let's just say it involved winning 'a certain game'. Also, Fresh Choice, Double Tree cookies, and spaghetti nights." --Sarah Black
"Winning the State Championship!" --Amber Oliver (Sanchez)
"Winning State!" --Andria Pruitt (White)
"My whole sophomore year….from the baffled retreat when we got lost in Grass Valley to going 36-1 and winning the State Championship!" --Coral Sage
"Running through toxic waste and poisonous fields for 3 hours on a map run gone wrong, Amber's impression of a certain player getting ready to be subbed into a game, our team clubbin' excursion at the Classic Juke Box, beating Solano at the buzzer with Ricci's 3-pointer, and of course the State Championship game and all the celebrations that followed it!" --Kylee Keroher
"Winning State!! I remember the chills I got when the buzzer rang. It truly was a memorable year…from being called the Barbie dolls, to Auntie Heidi's hot tomales and the never-ending supply of Midol, to wrapping Cassie in saran wrap. The friendships, the sweat, the lovely mile….and the OLD Roz. The Roz that most players Post-Championship have yet to see! That or Nancy's 6 birthdays a year we would celebrate at Chey's!" --Cat Carlson
"Of course the best game was the state championship game and eery road trip was full of excitement and laughter. The anxiety of the mile was not anything that can be described but let's just say that even 5 years from now I will still wake up in cold sweats!" --Shannon Smith
"When Roz called a police helicopter after us….and of course winning state!" --Cassie McMillen
"The Solano game when Ricci made the game winning shot at the last second." --Anna Platz
"All the road trips with the team!" --Ricci Andersen
"I have so many fun memories from my years at Sierra. The most memorable part of my time as a wolverine was definitely the relationships. Those relationships have made lasting impressions on my life and who I am today. I could not be more thankful for the people who invested in me as a player and a person. And after years of therapy, I don't really remember the mile!" --Candis Regan (Bailey)
"The snack box is a great memory. The mile run was probably good for us after eating all of the snacks in the box" --Andrea Knox (Osborne)
"Finally making our pro-rolls on the outside courts my freshman year after 3 hours!" --Brenna Welch
"Although the sickness of the mile will stick with me forever, it wasn't so much my favorite….Playing for the Sierra program in general was one of the most rewarding periods in my life, so everything that encompassed those two years, the good and the bad, are all my favorite memories" --Jen Eaton
"Way too many to mention….beating Delta at home both years, the Taft road trip my freshman year, the bingo fundraiser, playing at midnight at the De Anza tournament (at least we won!!) and Mandy and the nurses going crazy in the bleachers" --Meghan Griffith
Brittany Yates"Defeating San Francisco at their place in playoffs after we got ranked lower than them, our sophomore night, and playing catch phrase at the Christmas party" --Brittany Yates
"Making myself sick over the mile with Jen Eaton and beating San Jose City at their place to go down to San Diego!" --Christina Day
"Roz telling me that because I didn't know my right from my left, I shouldn't be in college. And when we all got yelled at after the Reedley loss….and I mean we REALLY got yelled at!" --Kelly Mezger
"Every memory that I experienced at Sierra was a favorable one. The ultimate experience was in 2005 when we traveled to "the beach, in San Diego for the State Finals. We won the first game!! I will never forget that as I had never been filled with so much anxiety yet excitement in all my life. I felt that everyone wanted to win that game and with that positive energy around pulled it off. The best part was no one ever guessed we would have even made it that far." --Kobea Tudsbury
"Being the last person to finish the mile…..ever!" --Nicole Scott
"State tournament San Diego, 2005!" --Rebekah Calvert
"Going to the State Finals at San Diego!" --Sam Buttler
"My favorite Sierra memory would be when we made it to the Final Four at San Diego. A great teammate memory would be when Day and Kobea were experimenting with the electric stem on different parts of their body." --Rocio Ruiz

Classic Roz Moments

"Where do I start? The empty chair next to her in case she went into one of her intense moments. The Costco size bottle of Tums she went through every game! Helping me "be pretty" with my shooting, getting me to the state All-Star game my second year, and being friends now when we didn't really like each other my first year." --Nicole Taylor

"When we went on a scouting trip to Delta College and Roz got lost on highway 160 and drove through a toll booth without paying. When she realized what she had done she backed up 100 yards and paid." --Mandy Ramey (Brown)

"Roz taught me to not give up. When the going gets bad, it's time to pull out the "Wolverine." I grew up believing that I was ugly and stupid, but Roz was the first person to tell me that I was a beautiful young woman on both the outside and the inside. She said this in front of the whole team which was so embarrassing at the time, but a moment I treasure. I was never a good player, but I was always a good team player and I have take that with me throughout my career. She taught me how to make my shortcomings a success for the team." --Carla Moore (Stephens)

"When I made her cry because of a speech I gave at basketball camp to all the kids (at least she said she cried!)" --Jolie Taylor

"When Michelle passed out in the gym during conditioning after running the mile and Roz got in her face and told her if se didn't wake up we were all doing 16's." --Holley Limpach

"My freshman year Roz told me I was too quiet to be playing point guard. Her way to cure this was to make me dribble the ball up and down the hallway yelling all of our different plays at the top of my lungs while classes were changing, the football team was getting ready for practice, the swim team was leaving the locker room..you get the point. I made sure I was loud on the court from that time forward." --Amy McLeod (Besana)

"The time Roz sent helicopters to find her team that got lost on what should have been a 25 minute run..nice map Roz! And 'Call me on my cell phone'" --Sarah Black

"I was the only one during my sophomore year that was still running the mile for time during the year. It was in the playoffs and we were playing Butte College. If we won we would go to the State Tournament and if we lost the season would be over. Roz told me that if we won she wouldn't make me run the mile over the summer. We won!" --Amber Oliver (Sanchez)

" 'Call me on my cell phone!' " --Andria Pruitt (White)

"The most memorable wasn't exactly the best moment of my playing career for Roz but let's just say I have a hard time eating at IHOP. Other than that I would have to say the stomping and pacing up and down the sidelines that I find myself doing now as a head coach." --Coral Sage

"The summer before my freshman year she made me demonstrate the rebound and grunt in front of the campers...over and over and over again" --Kylee Keroher

"My favorite moments were when we all tried to teach Roz new lingo like 'my bad' and 'nice kicks'. It was always fun when she'd actually use them correctly." --Cat Carlson

"Roz altogether is a memorable moment. For anyone who has played for her knows that yelling, yelling, and yelling are her best traits. If you don't hear her or have her in your face, then you have never been coached!" --Shannon Smith

"When she grabbed my shirt and threw me into the game after yelling something in my ear!" --Cassie McMillen

"When Roz called out my mile time as I finished running and I realized I made my time and would never have to run it again!" --Ricci Andersen

"The times when her and I would sit in her office and talk about life stuff. I always felt supported, challenged, and loved by Coach Roz. I have learned so much from her." --Candis Regan (Bailey)

"The same day of our midnight game when she started getting delirious around 10:30pm and was prank calling our cell phones." --Brenna Welch

"When Roz participated in a demonstration and had to put on a jersey!" --Jen Eaton

"Playing for her in general was so fun, but probably when she taped my ankle at a tournament in Reno my sophomore year." --Meghan Griffith

"Getting absolutely chewed out during the Delta home game my sophomore year..she grabbed me and told me to stop playing like a baby and then asked if I had anything to offer. I needed to hear that!" --Brittany Yates

"Hahahahaha! When Coach had to put on a jersey and fill in as a practice player because we were down people." --Christina Day

"I always loved when Roz wore her pink jacket!" --Kelly Mezger

"When Coach put on a little jersey and acted like she was playing. I have never laughed so hard." -Kobea Tudsbury

"When I messed up in practice and coach yelled 'SCOTTY' at the top of her lungs and everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at me." --Nicole Scott

"Playing catch phrase and making her laugh so hard she cried..what's a bag lady?" --Rebekah Calvert

"When Roz told the freshman to leave the locker room so she could talk to the sophomores after we lost to Reedley." --Sam Buttler

"When coach could not stop laughing because the team could not figure out how many time outs there are in a game. I've never seen her laugh so hard in my two years!" --Rocio Ruiz
