WMST 1 INTRODUCTION TO WOMEN’S STUDIES

Interdisciplinary introduction to women’s studies through the exploration and examination of historical, philosophical, sociological, psychological and literary perspectives as they pertain to women. Emphasis will be placed on how gender, race, ethnicity, culture, class, age, (dis)ability, sexual and national identities are constructed in relation to each other and how these systems shape women’s lives.

WMST 2 INTRODUCTION TO LGBT STUDIES/ QUEER THEORY

Units: 3 Transfer: CSU/ UC
Hours: 3 lecture

A broad and general introduction to Queer Theory as an historical consequent of Feminism and Gay and Lesbian Studies. Emphasis on theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of Queer Theory, Social Construction versus Essentialism, Postmodernist theory, Politics, LGBT Studies and Queer Culture.
