Applications for the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Program may be obtained through the Sierra College Nursing Program website, through counseling departments at all Sierra College campuses and from the nursing department. The nursing department will mail applications upon written request. A self-addressed, stamped envelope included in the request may expedite the request response time. Only students submitting a COMPLETE application packet will be considered for admission.
Applications are accepted for a finite time period. Typically, applications are accepted at the beginning of April for the following fall admission and the beginning of October for the following spring admission. Currently, thirty students are admitted into the traditional nursing program in the fall and twenty students are admitted into the on-line/hybrid course in the spring. The on-line hybrid course is funded by a grant until spring 2010. The difference in the traditional and on-line/hybrid course is that theory is only offered in an on-line format in the hybrid course.
Application acceptance periods for all programs are listed on the website, posted in the nursing and counseling departments, and listed on the nursing department telephone messaging system; (916) 781-6220.
Once the application acceptance period has ended, all applications are randomized by the mathematics department at Sierra College. The randomized list is assessed using the Chancellor’s Predictor of Success program. Applicants are assessed for overall grade point average (GPA) from all colleges attended, GPA in English, GPA in the sciences; microbiology, anatomy, and physiology, and the number of times a student has repeated microbiology, anatomy or physiology.
For fall admission, the first thirty students to meet the assessment criteria using the Chancellor’s Predictor of Success program are admitted for the following fall. For spring admission, the first twenty students to meet the assessment criteria using the Chancellor’s Predictor of Success program are admitted for the following spring semester.
Students interested in any of the nursing or certificate programs are strongly encouraged to review the information for each program found in the college catalog AND make an appointment with an academic counselor for educational planning.
