Parking and Security Services Information

Incident Information Line

A special phone number (916) 660-7280 has been established for students and staff to call for information about special conditions, campus closures, power outages, snow closures, or other emergencies that affect our campuses. The message is updated as conditions change.

Safety Escorts

If you feel fearful walking on campus you may request a safety escort by dialing extension 1000 from any campus phone or (916) 660-7120 from other phones. Provide the dispatcher with your current location and intended destination. If there are special circumstances or risks that you know about, be sure to share them with the dispatcher. Subject to availability, an officer will be dispatched to your location to walk with you to your destination. An officer may wish to transport you in a vehicle if it is more practical based on conditions.

Vehicle Security on Campus

Crime statistics show that vehicles parked at Sierra College have much less exposure to risk of burglary or theft than vehicles parked in the surrounding community. Even so, occasionally a car will be broken into, or stolen from one of our parking facilities. Most cases of property theft from inside a parked vehicle occur from unlocked vehicles. Locking your car is one of the simplest and effective deterrents you can use.

Damage to vehicles from minor collisions during parking manuevers is more likely than theft. These strategies can reduce your risk of being bumped or scraped by another vehicle.

  • Park your vehicle carefully within the stall boundary lines as near to the middle as possible.
  • Don't park next to a vehicle that is parked over a stall boundary line. Choose another stall.
  • Don't squeeze a full-sized vehicle into a stall marked for compact cars (marked with C).
  • Be sure to set your parking brake.

If your vehicle is damaged, burglarized, stolen, or the subject of any crime on campus be sure to report it to Parking and Security Services and/or to your local Police Department. Reporting such crimes helps us gather information toward identifying those responsible and to focus our efforts to reduce the risk of such crimes on campus.

Emergency Phones

In the event of an emergency or a need to contact security, emergency phones are located throughout campus.  Please understand that we are in the process of converting some of our phones to emergency call stations that will have the ability to call security, and to broadcast messages to the public in the event of a major campus incident.  Emergency phones will be marked with signage indicating it as such, and instructions on how to reach either campus security or emergency personnel.

Also, you can reach the security office by dialing (916) 660-7120 from a cell phone.  If you have an emergency and cannot reach an emergency phone, please use a cell phone and dial 911.
