Parking FAQ

Why do I have to pay for parking? I already pay taxes to support Sierra College.

Tax dollars are allocated to Sierra College by the state, but do not include any monies for parking lots. In order to provide for parking, the Education Code authorizes community colleges to collect parking fees from those who use the parking lots. The parking fees are used to purchase, construct, maintain, and operate parking facilities.

Where is the free parking area?

Sorry, but there is no free parking area* at the Rocklin Campus, Nevada County Campus or the Truckee Campus with the exception of 30-minute stalls for visits less than 30 minutes. The 30 minute stalls are marked by green curbs and signs, located in lots B, K, N, and S at the Rocklin Campus, and lot 7 at the Nevada County Campus. There are no 30 minute spaces at the Truckee Campus. If you don't mind walking, all campuses have limited city street parking outside the campus jurisdiction which is not regulated by Sierra College. Sierra College does not offer any police or parking services to vehicles parked outside our jurisdiction.
*We do not charge for parking from 4:00 PM on Friday to 11:00 PM on Sunday on all campuses.

My car needs a jumpstart. Can you help?

Unfortunately, due to liability concerns, we no longer offer this service either. We will be happy to contact AAA or another roadside assistance provider on your behalf and have them assist you. However, you will be responsible for any fees charged.

What happens if I park without a permit?

Normally, your vehicle would be issued a parking citation for violation of the Sierra College Parking Regulations. Currently, the penalty for parking without a permit is $35. In some cases, your vehicle may be towed away, particularly if the vehicle is illegally parked blocking a roadway, fire access, or another vehicle. Vehicles that have been issued five or more unpaid parking citations may also be impounded or immobilized until parking penalties and impound fees are paid.
