This display was created by former Sierra College students. It shows the base sequence for one of the most important families of genes found in DNA. Unlike other genes, which can change radically from one animal to the next, homeobox genes have been found to be the same or very similar in nearly all animals.
Homeobox genes are very important because they are the regulators of the other genes. Like any DNA molecule, homeobox genes are composed of a sugar/phosphate backbone, and only four bases, Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, and Cytosine.
