The Sierra College Natural History Museum announces Saturday community tour dates for spring/summer 2013. Due to the popularity of our fall tours we are back with even more offerings. For the first time ever, the Museum will be hosting open hours on these same Saturdays only, from 9am to noon. Come take a tour, or just stroll around the Museum on your own. Admission to the Museum on these Saturdays is $2.50 per person, or for $1 more, you can sign up to participate in the tour. Children under 4 are free.  (Admission prices differ for the May 4th event). If you wish to just stroll around the Museum without taking a tour, no sign up is needed.

Two family friendly lectures will be given during the open house. There will even be activities specially designed for kids! We can’t wait to show you our wonderful collection that has been built up from donations, students and our faculty. During the event we will be signing up new Museum members and renewing existing ones. If you like what you see, sign up to become part of our family. Members who sign up during the open house will receive a special gift. Love is in the Air

Saturday February 23, 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Ahhh spring; the time when nature prepares for the next generation. Birds are singing, butterflies take wing and big horn sheep bash their heads together. Finding and holding on to a mate isn’t as easy as it may seem. Males often have to battle to gain access to females and some males even sacrifice themselves as a tasty meal for their mates. Come to the Museum and learn about all of the strange and wonderful ways that life leads to the next generation. This tour may contain material that is not suitable for younger ears; children 10 and older recommended. Information will be posted on our website at www.sierracollege.edu/museum or you can call 916-660-7923 or email kcarroll@sierracollege.edu for more information.

Living Sustainably

Saturday April 20, 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Earth Day is April 22nd, what a great time to come to the Museum and learn how you can help the environment. This tour will focus on things that you can do both as a local citizen and a global citizen to help the environment. Learn how organisms are affected by our actions and how small islands of habitat, like our Nature Preserve, can be essential to the survival of organisms. Open to all ages. Information will be posted on our website at www.sierracollege.edu/museum or you can call 916-660-7923 or email kcarroll@sierracollege.edu for more information.

In Celebration of Nature

Saturday May 4, time TBD

More activities will be added as the day gets closer. Check out our website at www.sierracollege.edu/museum to learn more about this event or call 916-660-7923 or email kcarroll@sierracollege.edu.
