The Sierra College Foundation today announced it has received a $100,000 contribution from Wells Fargo, funds that will support a new student emergency fund, student internships and other needs on campus.
Wells Fargo is the first organization to join the Foundation's Preferred Partner Program, an initiative to engage leading businesses in the region.
"Wells Fargo has a long history of supporting Sierra College," said Sierra College President Willy Duncan. "We appreciate this expanded commitment to support the students of Sierra College, with a special emphasis on helping fund our Foundation's Student Emergency Fund and to help make more internships possible for Sierra College students."
The announcement was made today at a press conference that included members of the Sierra College Foundation Board of Directors and Wells Fargo officials.
"Sierra College plays a critical role in our community−providing important educational opportunities to a broad cross-section of the residents of our region," said Natasha Mata, Community Banking President, Four Rivers Market of Wells Fargo. "We welcome the opportunity to partner with the Sierra College Foundation to deliver needed support to students, helping them complete their education and gain the skills necessary to succeed."
The Foundation is currently raising a $250,000 to endow a fund to be used to meet the needs of students who face sudden financial emergencies. Wells Fargo is directing $35,000 of the $100,000 to the Student Emergency Fund. Once established, the Foundation will provide grants of up to $500 to help students facing financial emergencies so they can continue their studies.
Another $25,000 of the Wells Fargo contribution will be used to support this year's Taste of Excellence, the Foundation's largest fundraiser of the year. A portion of the proceeds from the Taste of Excellence will help fund additional internship opportunities for Sierra College students.
"Students who complete their time at Sierra College with an on-the-job experience are better positioned to enter the job market," said Robert Dugan, President of the Sierra College Foundation. "We appreciate Wells Fargo's support of this year's event and supporting students in gaining work experience that is critical as they start their careers."
