On November 16, 2013, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, TEDxGrassValley will present TEDxYouth@GrassValley, at Sierra College Nevada County Campus. The independently produced event, operated under license from TED, is organized around the upcoming TEDYouth conference, taking place on November 16 in New Orleans, LA. TEDxYouth@GrassValley will live webcast speakers from TEDxYouthDay and present an afternoon of talks given by local students, educators, artists, community members and more. Nearly 100 TEDxYouthDay events will take place during the weekend, including events in Madrid, Montreal, Sydney, India, Estonia, and our own Grass Valley. TEDxYouth@GrassValley is organized by faculty and staff at Sierra College NCC and the Nevada City Film Festival.
This year marks the fourth anniversary of TEDxYouthDay, a series of TEDx events designed to empower and inspire young people worldwide, coinciding with Universal Children’s Day in late November.
TEDxYouthDay events vary widely in size, format, and theme, but share a common mission: inspiring curiosity, igniting new ideas, and empowering leaders among today’s youth.
TED@Youth@GrassValley is the fifth TEDx event organized by TEDxGrassValley. This year's theme is “Art and Innovation”. TEDxYouth@GrassValley offers a playful space to discover our creative capacity and build on existing dialogues exploring the critical role the Arts play in cultural and economic innovation. Nevada County’s rich history of cutting edge technologies and its talented arts community provide a unique lens through which students, educators, artists, scientists and entrepreneurs can share success stories, current research, inspiring works of art and innovative models.
TEDxYouth@GrassValley will begin the day by webcasting talks from TEDYouth in New Orleans and finish with talks given by local students, educators, artists, community members, and more. This year’s talks include big ideas around art and architecture, nature, peace, physics, health, technology, music, and youth. Speakers include Nancy L. Fleming, David Wallace, Connor Hayes, Livia Keene, Katherine Reid PhD, Hannah Oitzman, Kim Bateman PhD, and Holly Lemere.
Space limited to 100. One ticket per person. Deadline to register
and purchase tickets is November 13.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 30 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes on a diverse mix of topics. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The TED2014 Conference will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast in neighboring Whistler. TEDGlobal 2014 will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; and TEDBooks, short e-books on powerful ideas. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
