Steps to Getting Started

1. Apply

Complete an online application for admission

Complete an Online Application for Admission to Sierra College. The statewide application is shared among community colleges throughout California.  

  • The email address you enter on your online application will be used for all communication from Sierra College until your mySierra account has been activated and you receive your official Sierra College email address.

Important Tip! Apply for Financial Aid. 65% of Sierra College students qualify for some form of financial aid. Visit the Financial Aid pages to learn more.

2. Submit your Official Transcripts

Send in your official college and high school transcripts

Submit official transcripts from all accredited colleges and high schools attended.

Send official electronic transcripts to: transcripts@sierracollege.edu

Mail sealed official transcripts to:

Sierra College
Attn: Admissions and Records
5000 Rocklin Road
Rocklin, CA 95677

3. Activate your mySierra Student Account

After receipt of your “Welcome to Sierra” email, follow the mySierra account activation instructions

You will receive a “Welcome to Sierra” email, which contains your mySierra account activation instructions. This email will be sent to the email address you entered on your application. If you do not receive your email, please contact the Hub at (916) 660-7300 for help.

  • All students must activate their account in order to have access to online orientation, registration, and to view their official Sierra College email – Log on to your mySierra account.

4. Online Orientation

Complete an online orientation

Log on to your mySierra account, and click on the ‘Online Orientation Part I’ link inside the ‘New to Sierra?’ box on the mySierra home tab.

5. Placement/Assessment

Use the Placement/Assessment Tool

All students are required to have placements and/or assessment scores on file. Please use the online Placement/Assessment Tool to see if you are required to take the assessment test. Many classes, like English and Math, have prerequisites that must be satisfied prior to registration. Visit the Assessment page to learn more.

  • If you must assess, use the Online Assessment Appointment System (Rocklin campus only) or call the Assessment Center to make an appointment at:
    • (916) 660-7430 for the Rocklin campus
    • (530) 274-5303 for the Nevada County campus
    • (530) 550-2225 for the Tahoe Truckee campus

6. Develop a Student Educational Plan (SEP)

Schedule an appointment for a counseling workshop after completing steps 1 through 5

You must complete steps 1 through 5 prior to scheduling your counseling session. Our trained counselors will help you develop your first semester Student Education Plan (SEP). Once your student education plan (SEP) has been created, you can view it online in Degree Works, located in your mySierra account.

7. Register Online

Register for classes through your mySierra account

Log on to mySierra and click on the ‘Add or Drop or Withdraw from Classes’ link inside the ‘Registration’ box on the home page. In preparation we suggest you:

  • Check your specific registration date and time, which can be found in the ‘Registration’ box under the Registration Status link in your mySierra account.
  • Prepare a tentative class schedule with the days and times using the Schedule of Classes.
  • View our tutorial on how to register and/or add to a waitlist.  
  • Check for course pre-requisites and co-requisites.
  • Purchase textbooks. 

8. Pay Fees

All fees are due when you register

Optional Fees: For parking permits and to purchase an Associated Students of Sierra College (ASSC) sticker:

  • 1. Login to mySierra
  • 2. Go to "Pay Fees" link
  • 3. Go to "Credentials" link
