Vince Mayle, one of the most decorated Sierra College football players in program history—and one of the really good guys—makes his D1 debut tomorrow as his Washington St. Cougars travel to SEC-land to take on the Auburn Tigers. The game is on ESPN-U at 4:00pm.
In 2012, Mayle dominated state stats as a wide receiver for the Wolverines. He top California with 16 TD catches, and was second among state JC receivers with 61 receptions, 984 yards, 90 yards-per-game, and 16.1 yards per catch. Those gaudy numbers earned him All-American First Team Offense, All-Valley Conference First Team Offense, All-Valley Offensive MVP, and All-California First Team Offense honors.
While he was courted by a number of major colleges, Mayle was attracted to Cougar coach Mike Leach’s fast-paced, pass-happy offense, where he should be a major contributor on the outside, thanks to his size, speed and strength.
Mayle was a constant presence on the Rocklin campus even when he wasn’t on the football field. He had an interest in all Sierra sports and never seemed to miss a game, either as a versatile student employee or as a fan.
