Getting the Arts back into Education: with Michelle Coder
Sierra College and the Sierra College Foundation hosts Arts and Innovation Day, a day-long, multi-disciplinary event scheduled for Thursday, Sept 26, from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm.
The event features hands-on, arts-based activities designed to allow students of all ages to explore their creative capacities. Through fun activities and exciting presentations by experts in their fields, our learning community will join together to address the critical role that the arts play in human, social, cultural and economic development and innovation. This highly collaborative, creative project brings together a wide variety of departments, student clubs, campus organizations and community partners. Community Partners currently include: Placer County Arts Council, Nevada County Arts Council, AAUW, RAFT, Hip Hop Congress, Placer County STEM Expo and TCAP. Funding for the event is provided by the Patrons Club and Sierra College Foundation.
EVENTS: The Creativity Fair features a wide variety of vendors, clubs and faculty projects and hands-on projects. Performances in our outdoor amphitheater will be presented from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, related lectures throughout the day, afternoon keynote presentations, discussion panel, an Art in Unexpected Places self-tour scavenger hunt, Nature Art Tours, the Ridley Gallery exhibit ‘Kinetic Conveyance’ and an evening performance ‘Urban Arts Concert: Words from the Heart’ in Walker Recital Hall, D12 at 7:30 pm.
