The Museum is an exciting place and a community treasure. Built in 1967, the Museum focuses, of course, on natural history. There are over 70 animal head-mounts and 140 skulls on exhibit. Mammals from North and South American cover the walls. Among the exhibits hanging down from the ceiling are: a complete 38 foot long California Gray Whale skeleton, a Narwhale skull replica, a Bowhead whale baleen plate, and a complete Manatee skeleton. Also, journey back into California's past and get a glimpse of what was swimming in and flying over our Mesozoic sea - models of a life-size Thalattosaur, Mosasaur, Plesiosaur, and Pterodon. The Museum has over 12,500 specimens! The Natural History Museum's primary participants are the students of Sierra College who attend classes, field courses, lectures, seminars and demonstrations. But there's so much available for everyone.
