Come discover the wonders waiting for you at the Sierra College Natural History Museum

Event Details

Get to Know Your Local Museum! If you haven't had a chance to visit the Sierra College Natural History Museum or attend one of our lectures, now is your opportunity! We would like to welcome you to come and check out all that we have to offer at this FREE family friendly open house. We will be offering tours of both our museum and the nature preserve (weather allowing). You will even have the chance to view our fossil preparation room. Two family friendly lectures will be offered as well. Activities specially designed for kids are planned. We can't wait to show you our wonderful collection that has been built up through donations, students and our faculty. If you like what you see, during the event, you'll have the opportunity to join our family by signing up to become a museum member or renew your existing membership. Special gifts will be given to all new members who sign up during this event. The open house is the perfect event for all ages. Information can be found on our website at or you can call (916) 660-7923 or email for more information.

Open House Program

  • Mini-tours will be available all day: Take a guided mini-tour of our Museum facilities with one of our Museum Docents. They will show you our collection, teach you a bit about the ecology of our area and even entertain you with stories of the plants and animals of our region. To take a tour of the Museum, meet your Docent under the Grey Whale in Sewell Hall.
  • Nature Trail Tours: Would you rather explore the outdoors? Meet your Docent at the Cactus Garden in front of Sewell Hall to take a tour of our outdoor facilities. Tours of our Nature Trail will take place at 10:00am and 12:00pm. Tours of our Rock Walk will take place at 11:00am and 1:00pm

*These tours will be weather dependent, heavy rain will cancel outdoor tours.

We will be offering family friendly lectures.

Participate in activities for the younger explorers:

  • All day long we will have activities for children occurring throughout the Museum. From touch tables to art activities, children will find much to discover in the Museum! You can also choose to participate in our Junior Naturalist Program and earn a prize.
