What is work-study?

Sierra College work-study programs offer eligible students an important opportunity to gain valuable work experience as they complete their educational goals.

Sierra College currently offers two work-study programs.

1. Federal Work-Study

This is a federal financial aid program. In order to be eligible for work-study, a student must have applied for federal financial aid, found eligible for the work study program, and must have received a Sierra College Federal Work-Study Eligibility Notice via your mySierra account. In addition, Work-study funds must be available at the time you are hired. Work-study funds become available in early August and are usually exhausted within a few short weeks.

You should ask to be added to the wait list in the Financial Aid Office if funds are depleted before you are placed in a position. There are some limitations to the work-study program, including the number of hours that can be worked in a day, week, and semester.Once it has been determined that you will be hired, specific weekly hours will be computed for you based on your award. The off-campus Federal Work-Study program offers student jobs through our America Reads/America Counts Program and Community Service agencies.
