Through the Sierra College Student Services and Liberal Arts Divisions, Dr. Reyes Ortega offers professional counseling services and teaches history as a means for students to achieve academic success and increased self-awareness. As Co-coordinator of the Puente Program, he works closely with students to achieve their education and career goals. His bilingual and bicultural skills are helpful to assure that college access and success are, indeed, available for all.
Originally from the San Francisco bay area, Dr. Ortega’s extended family comes from the state of New Mexico and from the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. As a first-generation college student, he draws from personal and professional experiences to help others understand the value of higher education. When not reading or writing, he spends his time with his wife Rebecca, and enjoys the outdoors with his sons Reyes and Mateo.
Dr. Ortega's Memorable Puente Moment: "Observing Puente students learn the value of Mexican American/Latino history, culture and community service"

Professor Robert's Memorable Puente Moment: "When Pedro told me I was cool. Also, watching our students listen to and interact with the Chico students during our visit to Chico State."
