LaToya Jackson-Lainez of Sierra College Honored as 2022 Top Young Professional by Comstock’s Magazine
Sierra College Director of Diversity, EEO and Title IX LaToya Jackson-Lainez has been honored by Comstock’s Magazine as a Top Young Professional in the Sacramento region.
“I am so very honored to have been nominated by my college president, and to be selected and featured by Comstock’s Magazine as a young leader of 2022 shining a light on equity work,” said LaToya Jackson-Lainez. “Being in a position to stride towards transformational change for marginalized communities, including those that look like me, and to be hand in hand in this work with brilliant colleagues and allies is an inspiration.”
The nomination stated, “Her colleagues applaud her for her warmth, radical empathy, and listening abilities. She has been an integral part of the college’s effort to disrupt racial profiling on campus, and revamp campus security and conduct procedures. In addition to her outstanding work at the college, she is actively involved at the state level to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion, and serves on the statewide EEO advisory committee.”
“This honor is a testament to LaToya’s commitment in the service and empowerment of Sierra College’s students,” said Willy Duncan, Sierra College Superintendent/President. “Her amazing work is deserving of recognition and celebration.”
“Inspiration alone will not be enough for these young people and others to reach their full potential. Just as no person is an island, no generation can succeed on its own without the help of the people who hire them. This generation may produce leaders for tomorrow, but we need to take care of their needs as citizens and workers today,” said Winnie Comstock-Carlson, Comstock’s Magazine President and Publisher.
