Earlier this month, the Sierra College Physics and Engineering Club (SCPEC) received a $1,500 grant from the Aerojet Rocketdyne Foundation. Sara Minnehan, Aerojet Rocketdyne Foundation and Community Relations Director, presented a ceremonial check to Dr. Randy Lehr (Dean, Sciences and Math), Phil Pattengale (Engineering Professor and Club Advisor), Dr. Rebecca Bocchicchio (Vice President of Instruction) and club members on May 6, 2019. “It is a wonderful opportunity for Sierra College to receive this grant from local industry,” said Pattengale. “It illustrates the close ties that this college maintains with local businesses/manufacturing.”

Aerojet Rocketdyne provides grants such as these to inspire the next generation of students. This gift will certainly be used to that end, as SCPEC plans to utilize the funds to create an interactive physics and engineering display in the Sierra College Natural History Museum to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. “The idea is to get people playing with science,” shared Pattengale. SCPEC students designed the display which will be constructed during the 2019-20 instructional year.
