Lady Wolverines beat cross town rivals, gear up for a competitive Conference Championships
On Wednesday, October 26th, the Sierra College women’s water polo team competed against their cross town rivals, the American River College Beavers. What was anticipated to be a battle between the two teams, the game in fact, kept spectators on the edge of their seats. After four grueling quarters, the Lady Wolverines squeaked out a 16 to 15 win against the Beavers.
Leading the way to the Wolverine’s victory was Jeannette Saldana with 5 goals and assisting her teammates with 3 more. Not to be out done, teammate Megan Hayward hammered 4 goals in in less than 3 minutes in the third quarter. Megan Plank pulled another hat trick, while Carrisa Johnston and Alyssa Alvarez were close with 2 a piece.
The Wolverines now eagerly await the Big 8 Conference Championships this weekend held at Diablo Valley College. Much like the American River game, conference champs is to be a grudge match for the top spot. The successful 20 and 4 Sierra team looks to advance to the Northern California Championships, and with luck, to the 2016 California Community College State Water Polo Championships.
